What went well this month

Exist revenue. Thanks to the press we got in January, which I mentioned in my last monthly review, our revenue has been much better this month. We're still a long way from paying two salaries, but it's nice to see movement after 2016 being such a slow year for Exist.

Playgrounds Conference. I went to my first ever conference, an Apple and Swift conference here in Melbourne. It was exhausting but also really, really great. I've been really pumped up about my iOS work ever since, and I'm hoping …

What went well this month

  • Exist year in review user reports. We launched annual reviews for all Exist users and they went down really well. We'll definitely continue these in future years.
  • Working weekday mornings at RescueTime. I started out working 2.5 days at RescueTime and spending the rest of my week on Hello Code, but I didn't like the strict separation for several days in a row. Now I'm working 7-11am weekdays and I have every afternoon to work on Hello Code.
  • Hellas headphones. These Bluetooth headphones are quite tight, so I …

What went well this month

  • Christmas. I'm not actually a fan of Christmas, or of driving to the country, but since we went away for a few days over Christmas I did enjoy the forced break from work and other responsibilities. It was really nice to switch off and relax for a few days in a row. And I got to enjoy presents and games and yummy food as well.
  • Starting my new job. I'll talk more about this in January when I officially start, but I eased into my new part-time role in …

What went well this month

  • Finished a full four-week workout plan in the Nike+ Training Club app. Counterintuitively, upping my plan to 5-6 workouts per week actually worked better than only doing 1-3 workouts per week. I'm not convinced I can see or feel any difference yet, but I'm really proud I stuck it out for the whole four-week period, and I'm hoping after another few weeks I'll start to see signs of progress in both lowering my body fat percentage and increasing my strength.
  • My birthday! It was one of my favourite birthdays …

This month's goals

✖️ Stay under budget

I bought a bigger coffee order than usual, so I won't have to order again so soon, but it blew out my groceries budget. I also bought some stationery at the end of the month that I was going to save for September. I'm counting that as my September order, so no more stationery purchases this month. I'm also not going to the hairdresser for the next 3 months or so while I grow out my hair, so that'll save me $130 every six weeks.

✔️ Finish Exist for …

This month's goals

  • ✖️ Complete changes to Exist Timeline tab to match Android app: FAIL But close! I was ahead of schedule all month until I got really stuck on the last major chunk of work. I'm still not sure how to move forward, so it may take me all of August to finish this off.
  • ✖️ Keep my total expenses under budget: FAIL I tried hard to stay under budget this month, but accidentally didn't count some expenses from early in the month, so I ended up going over. But I was close, and I …

Monthly Review: June 2016

This review is a bit late! I did it right at the start of July, but forgot to post it here until now.

If you need to catch up, see last month's review and the entire monthly reviews category.

What did I complete that I am proud of this month?

  • ✔️ Finished a bunch of small improvements to Exist for iOS to bring it in line with the Android and web apps.

What goals did I attempt this month?

Fails all round this month, as I was sick (again) with a nasty cold. I also did a bad job of keeping …

Monthly Review: May 2016

At the start of each month I do a review of my goals, habits, and experiments from the past month. In January 2015 I started publishing my monthly reviews on my blog instead of keeping them private. You can see them all in my monthly reviews category.

At the start of 2016 I stopped publishing my monthly reviews, as I felt I was censoring myself and getting less use out of the process. I've decided to start sharing these again, though I'll create an edited version based on my original, private notes. I hope you find them useful!
